Three killed, one hurt in Tagaytay landslide

SILANG, Cavite — Three construction workers were killed and one was seriously hurt in a massive landslide at the height of torrential rains on Thursday morning, July 24, in Barangay Iruhin West, Tagaytay City.

LtCol. Jefferson Ison, police chief of Tagaytay Component City Police Station, identified the fatalities by their aliases as “Jose,” “Nonong,” and “Mark” who are all residents of Barangay Iruhin West.

Alias “Armond,” also of Barangay Iruhin West, was pulled out alive and was rushed to Ospital ng Tagaytay for treatment.

The police report said the four victims were taking a rest at their barracks in the construction site when a perimeter wall separating Tagaytay City and Silang town suddenly collapsed due to a landslide at the height of monsoon rains enhanced by Tropical Depression Crising.

The four were buried in a mass of soil.
The search, rescue and retrieval operations late Thursday afternoon were jointly conducted by the Bureau of Fire Protection Tagaytay, Tagaytay City Rescue, Tagaytay Component City Police Station, Silang Municipal Police Station, barangay officials and the local government units of Tagayatay City and Silang.

Two of the victims, including the lone survivor, were retrieved on Thursday. The retrieval operations continued on Friday when the remains of the two other victims were found.

The collapsed perimeter wall is located in Barangay Cabangaan, Silang, Cavite.Due to strong pressure of the landslide, the concrete wall collapsed on the construction barracks on the side of Barangay Iruhin West, Tagaytay City.

In anticipation of weather-related hazards, the Tagaytay City Police Station also conducted preemptive measures, including increased patrols and inter-agency coordination, in landslide- and flood-prone areas.

This proactive initiative forms part of the station’s ongoing disaster preparedness efforts, aimed at ensuring public safety and enhancing community resilience during emergencies.

Local authorities are strongly urging the public to stay clear of the incident site to ensure the safety of everyone.
The landslide occurred at around 10 a.m. on Thursday, the Silang Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said.It was triggered by the heavy rainfall for several days.

Landslides were also landslides reported in Silang, Dasmariñas, General Trias, Tanza and Naic but no casualties were reported.
